The Board of Trustees of North Country School and Camp Treetops is pleased to announce the unanimous election of Dennis Aftergut as new Board Chair, effective immediately.
Dennis replaces J. Matthew Davidson, who is stepping down as Chair after 12 years but will continue his service on the Board. Mr. Davidson requested the change to accommodate the growing demands of leading Xten Industries LLC, where he is Chairman and CEO.
“This institution is deeply indebted to Matt Davidson for his outstanding leadership over the past 12 years,” said David “Hock” Hochschartner, Head of School and Camp. “Though we’re sorry to have him step down as Chair, we are pleased that he remains on the Board. And we could not ask for a more suitable successor than Dennis Aftergut.”
First elected to the Board in 2007, Dennis previously served as Board Vice-Chair and as co-Chair of the Governance Committee.
“From day one, Dennis’ determination to push the organization forward has helped create an important sense of optimism and momentum on the Board and throughout our School and Camp communities,” Hochschartner added.
In another change, David Damico has assumed the position of Director of Admissions for North Country School, replacing Christine LeFevre of Wilmington, who retired earlier this fall after 17 years directing admissions.
Damico brings 20 years of leadership in independent schools to his new post. Most recently he served as the Upper School Director of Admissions at Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School, a secondary boarding school in Kingston, Penn. Prior to that, David spent 15 years at the American School in Switzerland, where he served as Dean of Students, Associate Director of Admissions, and Director of the Summer French Language Program.
“David’s broad expertise in recruiting international students—he’s fluent in French and lived abroad for years—will be a real benefit to North Country School,” Hochschartner said.
