SARANAC LAKE Suzanne Langelier-Lebeda, Adirondack Artist Guild member, will exhibit her latest work through Jan. 4, 2008 at the Artists Guild gallery located at 52 Main Street, Saranac Lake. Winter Solstice Images: Darkness into Light is the theme of the drawings and paintings. The nature studies explore the transitions of the season in the changing light. The Winter Solstice is that brief time when nature restswhen the sun is the farthest from the earth and nature restores itself. It is resting with purpose. Using a rich range of graphite with bright acrylics, and muted watercolors on different surfaces I show the purity of form isolated by contrasts. Nature becomes revealed, without the distractions of cover and color. Trees and grasses fade in color and become more graphic or linear. They are not defined by color but exist as positive and negative shapes. I observe the essence of natures forms at reststill and dark against the pale, frigid, December light and the inevitable whiteness of snow. In most images I have left a touch of residual color. It is a visual reminder that nature will stir from its restorative sleep in the darkness and grow back with the colors of life. The Solstice season, the standing still-ness, marks the promise of moving darkness into light. Suzanne has been a member of the Adirondack Artists Guild since 2004.
