Maura Gahan, a member of the Lubberland National Dance Co., will mold the students of Leland and Gray's Journey East Program into Bread and Puppet performers on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at Leland and Gray's Dutton Gymnasium.
A $5 donation is suggested.
Journey East, Leland and Gray's Asian Studies Academy and Sino-American Arts Exchange was initiated in 2000. To date, over 200 Leland and Gray and Windham County students and teachers have participated in the Academy and have created music/theater/dance programs, which they have performed during month-long tours of China. Music and Artistic Directors Ron Kelley and Jennifer Connor are excited to have the 27 students in Journey East 2010 work with Bread and Puppet artist Maura Gahan as they create this year's program.
The Lubberland National Dance Company is an itinerant dance company that specializes in problem solving dances, victory dances for victories and collateral dances for victims. The repertory also includes wedding dances for normally hostile populations and their rulers, national funeral dances for in response to the most recent wars of Lubberland and total peace and harmony dances with no meaning whatsoever.
