TICONDEROGA Deb Malaney, Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce executive director the past seven years, has resigned. Malaney has accepted a position as director of sales and marketing for the soon-to-open Best Western Ticonderoga Inn & Suites. Its been wonderful, Malaney said of her time with the chamber. When I came on board seven years ago I offered my sales and marketing services. We only had 75 members; now we have well over 150. I think weve really come a long way in supporting the community, attracting tourism and supporting our small businesses, she said. Malaney will leave the chamber Jan. 19. Im proud to have been part of the chamber, she said. The board (of directors) has been wonderful. Theyll do a great job moving the chamber forward. While Malaney is leaving the chamber, she promised to remain involved in community activities. She intends to stay on the Ti Main Street Revitalization Committee, the Ti Economic Development Committee, the Essex County Occupancy Tax Advisory Committee and the Lake Champlain Regional Marketing Committee. And part of her new job to is to attract visitors to the community, she noted. Ill continue to promote Ticonderoga and Im delighted about that, Malaney said. Ill still be Tis biggest cheerleader. Pam Nolan, chamber president and COO of the Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union, said Malaney will be missed. Deb has been a valuable advocate for the Ticonderoga areas local and regional promotional efforts, she said. On behalf of the TACC Board of Directors, and as a member of our business community, I want to extend my gratitude for Debs leadership and contributions to the chamber over the past seven years. Ticonderoga Supervisor Bob Dedrick agreed. Under Debs leadership the chamber of commerce has made great strides serving businesses in the greater Ticonderoga and she spearheaded many exciting events that benefited the community as a whole, he said. With her charm and wit she certainly was a consummate professional. She will be hard to replace. Nolan will serve as the interim executive director until the position is filled. Interested individuals should submit resumes by Jan. 28 to Nolan at PO Box 30, Ticonderoga 12883. The Best Western Ticonderoga Inn & Suites is scheduled to open in March. It will feature 54 guest rooms, a pub/restaurant, a swimming pool and a 250-seat conference/banquet facility. Itll be a great addition to the community, Malaney said. Fort Ticonderoga alone attracts 80,000 visitors year and there are only 120 beds (hotel rooms) in Ticonderoga.
