QUEENSBURY - The Johnsburg Cross Country runners finished strong at season-end races. On Oct 29, the varsity runners participated in the Adirondack League Championships at Queensbury High School.
On the boys side, Matt Hayden and Lance Baker ran their personal best on this day and Hayden was able to clinch a top 10 finish. Levi Kranick ran well despite recovering from the flu.
For the girls, Bridgette Crooms-Schenk and Kendyl Morse both logged impressive times.
Crooms-Schenk with an 11th place finish and Hayden with his 10th place finish earned spots on the Adirondack League All-Stars.
Section II races were held on Friday Nov. 6 and proved to be a good day to run for the Jaguars. All varsity runners ran at least 40 seconds faster on this course than they had three weeks prior.
"They peaked for this final race and really left everything on the course," said head coach Gary Wilson.
Matt Hayden finished in 35th in 18:33. Lance Baker in his first complete season ran the course in 19:16 for 52nd place, and Levi Kranick covered the course in 20:05 for 65th place.
The weather turned as the girls took the course and temperature dropped as the humidity rose. Despite the change, Bridgette Crooms-Schenk finished in 22nd place with a time of 22:53. Her final race proved to be her best performance ever. Morse finished out in 34th with a time of 24:38.
"I was so proud that all the varsity runners had a personal best time," said Wilson. "They really gave everything they had during these races."
