The Hacker Boat Company, Inc., based in Silver Bay on Lake George, has announced that starting this year it will add larger models to its product line. This is a departure from a decades-old tradition of building boats that average 22-30 feet length overall.
For decades the company has built three models (Runabout, Sport and Racer) rarely longer than 30 feet. While larger custom boats have been built, almost all boats have been in the 22-30 foot range. The decision to build larger boats is based on the company’s international expansion efforts. The new models will be 39 to 45 foot, suitable for coastal cruising.
“We are currently seeking dealers to represent us in various regions, throughout the world, that have good potential for boat sales”, said George Badcock, president and CEO of the company. “We are in serious talks with a dealer in China with multiple locations and have several other dealers expressing interest in representing Hacker-Craft. We are told that customers demand larger boats in such markets. Larger boats are also more suitable for the waters in those areas.”
Dealers in South Korea, Dubai, Uruguay, Croatia and Puerto Rico have also expressed an interest in representing the iconic American brand.
Badcock added, “We need to expand our representation to grow the company. Consumers in several developing countries are now demanding luxury goods, including boats. International expansion will also access other and at times stronger economies, reducing our reliance on the United States market. And when it is winter here, it is summer in other climates, so we can sell more boats on a more consistent basis.”
The company is already selling boats internationally, including a boat recently delivered to a customer in Finland and a tender now being built for a mega yacht under construction in Germany.
The Hacker Boat Company is the largest American manufacturer of classic mahogany motor boats. The company’s corporate headquarter and storage facilities are located near and on the shoreline of Lake George. Production and restoration facilities are located in Ticonderoga.
Each Hacker-Craft is hand crafted by master boat builders who labor over 1,400 hours to build every boat. The company builds runabouts, sport boats, launches, tenders, utilities and custom designed boats from 24 to 35 feet in length.
