ELIZABETHTOWN - An informational meeting on zoning was held April 1 at the Elizabethtown Town Hall by the planning board. The purpose was two-fold: to bring awareness to the community that such laws exist; and to define the reasoning behind the laws which is to protect the health, safety and welfare of the community.
In August, Elizabethtown's zoning enforcement officer will commence notifying violators by letter asking them to comply. It is the town's hope these letters will be at a minimal and the property owners currently stockpiling junk cars, or parking two or more unregistered vehicles in their yard, and similar violations will have remedied the situation by then. Permits are required for erecting signs, installing fences, building sheds, etc., but, when in doubt, contact the ZEO on Monday or Wednesday mornings at the town hall.
The next scheduled informational meeting will be held May 6 at 7 p.m. at the town hall. All are welcome and encouraged to come especially businesses and residents residing in the hamlet for which the zoning laws apply.
Copies of the Elizabethtown Land Use Local Law can be viewed on-line at www.Elizabethtown-ny.com or copies can be obtained at the town hall.
