MOOERS - During the annual Labor Day celebration in Mooers, people will find out who truly has talent.
For the last five years, people of all ages have come out to show their lip syncing abilities, but during this year's event, Monday, Sept. 6, people will be able to do much more.
"We have some kids that like to do karaoke, some kids that like to do lip sync and some kids that would rather show what they have for talent," explained event chairperson Paula Ashline.
This year, the contest will become "Mooers Has Talent," with any abilities welcome to the show.
"If there's somebody that has a band and they need to set up a band, we'll even take that," said Ashline. "That's what we call talent."
The event will be held at the Mooers Volunteer Fire Department, 2508 U.S. Route 11, beginning at 2 p.m. Participants will be judged based on appearance, ability and stage presence, with prizes awarded for the top three performances.
Although the number of participants has been good in the past, Ashline has noticed many people don't sign up because of stage fright.
"I always say, you never know if you're going to win, unless you try it," she said.
Participants, who can be of any age, are still welcome to continue the past tradition.
"If they want to lip sync, if they want to do karaoke, that's fine with us," said Ashline.
Overall, Ashline is just hoping they have a good turnout this year.
"We just want all the talent that can be brought to Mooers," she said.
Some music selections will be available, but Ashline suggests if there is any special song someone wants to sing, it may be best to bring their own CD.
Registration begins at 1 p.m., although people can sign up ahead of time. For more information, or advanced registration, contact Ashline at 236-7327.
