Zombies are coming to northern New York.
Not the Zombie-like throng of holiday shoppers due to reach the mall in a matter of months, but the kind of Zombies who live in the head and illustrations of North Country author David Monette.
Monette is a 1988 graduate of Northeast Clinton High School, who is trained in both graphic and fine arts. He attended Mohawk Valley Community College for graphic design, and later received a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from Syracuse University. He went on to receive a Master’s in Fine Arts in Illustration from the University of Hartford.
While at Hartford, Monette’s professors noticed he had a gift for writing, as well as illustrating. With the illustrating world becoming more and more global, he realized that he had to add writing to his tool chest, along with the illustrating, to remain competitive.
“I had to think of ways to develop my own intellectual property,” said Monette. “So I started creating my own things and marketing them.”
Monette’s first novel, The Zombie Axiom, will be debuted at a release party Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the ROTA Gallery in Downtown Plattsburgh. The novel is being self-published by Monette.
The Zombie Axiom is set in modern-day northern New York, and brings together three uncommon allies to lead a handful of survivors against a hord of walking dead, after a god-like alien intelligence transforms most of the population into zombies.
The launch of the novel is set to coincide with the annual Zombie Walk through downtown Plattsburgh.
Monette is also an adjunct professor at Clinton Community College. Monette can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
