SCHROON LAKE Team Hole in the Wall has announced its selection as a charity partner of the Adirondack Marathon and Half Marathon. Renown for its spectacular views and scenic racecourse, the Adirondack Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on Sept. 21 in Schroon Lake. We are very excited to offer the Adirondack Marathon as a feature Team Hole in the Wall Event for 2008, said Mike Smiles, chief development officer for The Hole in the Wall Gang Fund. The Adirondack Marathon and Half Marathon will enable Team Hole in the Wall participants to enjoy a magnificent event complete with stunning lakeside views all while helping to send seriously ill children to Hole in the Wall Camps. Founded in 1988 by Paul Newman, Hole in the Wall Camps comprise the worlds largest family of camps for children with serious illnesses. To date, more than 114,000 children with serious illnesses from all 50 states and 32 countries have attended Hole in the Wall Camps free of charge. The Adirondack Marathons proximity to The Double H Hole in the Woods Ranch in Lake Luzerne adds a special connection to this wonderful partnership, Smiles said. Founded in 1991, this Hole in the Wall Camp has served more than 17,000 seriously ill children through its summer and year-round programs. Double H is located 45 miles southeast of Schroon Lake. Team Hole in the Wall is an athletic fundraising initiative that partners athletes with the mission of Hole in the Wall Camps. By challenging themselves in marathons, cycling events, triathlons and other athletic events, Team Hole in the Wall participants enable seriously ill children to experience Hole in the Wall Camps worldwide.
