The Post Stars roving reporter recently asked people on the street what was their favorite Christmas movie. There are a lot to choose from nowadays, and he received six different responses. My favorite Christmas movie still has to be White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. It came out in 1954 when I was a senior in high school. Why is it my favorite? First, Bing Crosby, with his bald head, reminds me of my father. I love to listen to Bings mellifluous voice crooning the title song by Irving Berlin. I love watching him and Danny Kaye kick up their heels, while they toss their hats and canes around, during the song and dance numbers. Finally, theres Rosemary Clooney & Vera-Lynns duet of Sisters. My sister was 12 years younger, but I remember trying to teach a 5-year-old, Sisters, sisters, there were never such devoted sisters. Oh, and I like the casts red velvet, white fur trimmed costumes, too. So, I guess what makes it my favorite movie is the memories it stirs up. Christmas is a time for remembering. We send cards to friends and choose and wrap gifts for family. Some of us have offspring who must travel long distances. Others have kids right here in town or nearby. We dont need to dream about a white Christmas this year. Weve got it! The ground has a nice white cover and theres a promise of more to come. May your days be merry and bright!
