SARANAC LAKE When will the Adirondack Chair go down on Pontiac Bay? Spring is in the air which means its time for the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerces annual fundraising event. For those who cannot wait to see the snow and ice make way for leaves and flowers, the Chamber is introducing its new Great Ice Out 2008, a fun way to count the days until spring and at the same time, hope to win some money! How does it work? Buy a ticket for $2 or three for $5 and guess, without going over, what the date, hour and minute the ice on Pontiac Bay completely swallows the Adirondack Chair and you can win 50 percent of the funds raised in this exciting fundraising event. The deadline to purchase tickets is April 1 or before, if the chair gets submerged. People need to be 18 years or older to purchase tickets. This event replaces the Spring Fling Lottery, which the Chamber has held for the past five years, said Executive Director Sylvie Nelson. The Chambers Events Committee thought it would be a great way to get people excited about Spring and at the same time, support the Chamber in all of the activities we organize to benefit the community, including the Friday Night Concert Series,Sparkle Village, Great Adirondack Days, support of Winter Carnival and our other legislative and economic development efforts. Tickets can be bought at the Chamber, located at 39 Main Street inSaranac Lake, as well as these retail locations in downtown Saranac Lake: Borealis Color, Bear Essential, Mountain Gift & Powder Company, Blue Line Sport, Christian Bookstore and Two Horse Trade. For those who want to check out the Adirondack Chair, they can do so from the shore in Riverside Park, at the Ice Palace site. But beware: the ice is never safe when spring is around the corner so the chamber urges onlookers to look from afar and not to venture on Pontiac Bay. This event is sponsored by Mountain Gift & Powder Company and Upstate Vinyl Graphics.
