A former Hague justice allegedly held court while under the influence of alcohol and abused her office.
That’s the finding of a state Commission of Judicial Conduct report.
Heather Knott, who resigned as Hague justice Nov. 1, should be disciplined for presiding over local court while intoxicated and appearing in Essex County Family Court from 2009 to 2011, while acting as an attorney for a litigant, also under the influence of alcohol, the report concludes.
The commission began an investigation of Knott following a report she tried to use her office to avoid a 2008 ticket for backing into a parked car and leaving the scene of the accident.
Following Knott’s resignation, the Hague town board appointed Leslie Midgley as judge in November.
