DOWNTOWN RUTLAND The tradition of Santa making his way into Rutland to help kick off the holiday season continues with Santas Arrival and Tree Lighting on Friday, Nov. 23. The excitement began at 6 pm when Santa arrived in style in Depot Park. Rutland City Mayor Christopher Louras joined in Santas arrival in a sleigh. Santa and Mayor Louras light the holiday tree. Wagon rides, caroling by Linda MacFarlane and Friends, music by the Downtown Brass and more added to the festive evening. Once Santa lit the holiday tree, he headed to Santas Land (Boys and Girls Club on Merchants Row). There he visited with children to listen to their holiday wishes. As children lined up waiting for Santa, magician Tom Joyce entertained them. Downtown Rutland would like to thank John and Judy Crowley for donating the holiday tree, Trees Incorporated for cutting and setting the tree, the City of Rutland and the Rutland Recreation Department. Santas Arrival and Tree Lighting kicks off Downtown Rutlands HollyDay season of fun and events. There will be horse and wagon rides, caroling, classic holiday movies at Movieplex 9 and more throughout December in Downtown Rutland.
