SARANAC LAKE The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerces Legislative Resources Committee will be hosting a Village Election Forum starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, in the Town of Harrietstown Town Hall. All three candidates, Jeff Branch, Jason Brill and incumbent John McEneany have agreed to participate. The fourth candidate, John Sweeney, retrieved his name from the election process last week and will not be part of the forum. Although the chamber does not support one candidate over another, we do support the election process and want to bring pertinent information to the voters so they can vote who they think can best represent them on the Village Board, said Executive Director Sylvie Nelson. The event will be facilitated by Peter Crowley, Editor of the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Chris Knight, News Director at WNBZ and Mountain Communications. Through this partnership, eight questions will be asked to each of the candidates. Each will have two minutes to answer. In order to keep the process fair and unbiased, the candidates will first pick a number to identify the order they will start. Then the facilitators will make certain that each question is answered by a different candidate and so on. This will ensure that each candidate has the opportunity to answer a question first. At the beginning of the forum, the candidates will each have two minutes to introduce themselves. They will also have the same amount of time at the end of the event to conclude with a statement. Audience members will be able to submit written questions but names will be required on the question in order to be read and only questions not part of the forum will be asked. The Saranac Lake High School Video Club, under the leadership of Don Jones, will videotape the event which will be broadcasted on Time Warner Cables public access channel. The event is free.
