SCHROON LAKE The sights and sounds of Christmas filled Schroon Lake as the community hosted its 22nd annual Olde Thyme Christmas Celebration Dec. 8. With the help of the Schroon Lake Central School band, Christmas trees were lit at various locations as an impromptu parade proceeded along Main Street. The parade included a Living Nativity that carried baby Jesus to his place in a nativity scene at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. And there was much more as hundreds of people visited the community and its shops during the event, which was sponsored by the Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce. Adirondack singer/songwriter Roy Hurd got things started with an acoustic performance at The Towne Store. Later he sang at the Community Church. Following the parade, Santa arrived at the Strand Theater to greet children. Throughout the evening there was horse and wagon rides, face painting at the senior center, childrens crafts at The Towne Store, complimentary refreshments at Alpine Pizza and cookies and cocoa at the senior center. The Community Church hosted four musical performances Hurd, the Schroon Lake Central School and Mountainside Christian Academy choruses and the Schroon Lake Community Choir will sing at 7:30 p.m. There were also performances at the Emporium, the Morningstar Bistro and The Towne Store. To cap off the evening, a Christmas movie was shown at the Strand Movie Theater.
