GRANVILLE, N.Y. - On Sunday, Dec. 14, the Slate Valley Museum opens its doors for a free Holiday Open House from 1-4 p.m. The annual event, which features bountiful refreshments, thousands of lights, Christmas caroling, gift shop specials, crafts for children, and door prizes, is given for all the communities in the Slate Valley of New York and Vermont in appreciation of their contributions to the regional museum.
"Each year for the past four, we have featured family stories and holiday traditions of different immigrant groups who came to the Slate Valley because of the slate industry," said executive director Mary Lou Willits. "This year we will be celebrating all the traditions and creating a gathering place for conversation and good cheer."
Volunteer Ann Hitchen has called upon many community members for donations of refreshments, decorations, door prizes, and time.
"This is the fourth year that Ann has chaired the event, and we are so grateful for her efforts and support of other volunteers who make the Holiday Open House possible," added Willits.
The museum will remain decorated for the holidays through Jan. 3. For more information, contact the museum at 642-1417 or visit the museum website at www.slatevalleymuseum.org
