CHESTERTOWN - The North Warren Summerfest, an annual community festival, is set for Saturday July 9 with a variety of new activities designed for family fun.
Scheduled for noon to 10 p.m. behind the Chestertown Municipal Center on Rte. 9, this free local fair includes games, live music, vendors, a pie-eating contest, a balloon artist and face painter, crafters, food, a bounce house and demonstrations. A barbecue is to be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. and fireworks begin at dusk.
At 4 p.m., a ground-breaking ceremony will be held for the new local veterans' memorial monument. See elsewhere in this issue for details.
The barbecue, featuring either a chicken dinner or pulled pork sandwich, costs $10. Either choice includes baked potato, coleslaw and fixings. Take-outs are available and tickets may be purchased in advance from the Chamber.
From 6:30 p.m. on, music is to be provided by the acclaimed band Mountain Quickstep, which is readying to embark on an international tour.
Sponsored by the North Warren Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Chester, the event is supported by donations as well from the community's businesses and residents. For details, call 494-2722 or see: www.northwarren.com.
