KEESEVILLE Adirondack Architectural Heritage has expanded their staff with the hiring of a new program director. Susan Arena, a Syracuse area native, has been named to the position for the organization, which promotes better public understanding of the heritage of the Adirondack Mountains region. While Arena grew up several miles west of the Adriondacks, she said she spent summers camping and fishing in the area when she was younger. Ive always had an interest in architecture and in nature, so this was an ideal position," Arena said. Arena, who recently completed her graduate degree in historic preservation at the University of Vermont, will be overseeing tours and events hosted by the organization, also known as AARCH, in addition to developing educational programs. The position was previously held by Ellen Ryan, who remains at AARCH in the newly-created position of community outreach director. Ryans responsibilities include survey and technical support, downtown revitalization programs and strengthening the network among local historians and historical societies. For more information about AARCH, contact Arena at 834-9328 or visit the organizations Web site at www.aarch.org.
