WARRENSBURG For the first time in recent history, Warrensburg will have an organized traveling basketball team to represent the town in regional competition. The team is a member of the Atlantic Athletic Union, which has dozens of teams in the Capital Region. The Warrensburg team will be competing with other teams formed for boys up to 16 years old. The team will begin competing next weekend, April 11 through 13, in a tournament on the courts at hudson Valley Community College. Their play this season will continue through early June. Warrensburg Town Supervisor Kevin Geraghty, a long-time local basketball enthusiast and scorekeeper for 35 years, praised the effort to form an AAU team. This team will be very beneficial to the town, he said. Its a wonderful way to build athletic skills in teenagers and it will certainly improve future Warrensburg High School Varsity basketball teams. The team will be coached by Rich Schloss, who is also the Varsity coach at the school. We may not win a lot at first, but this AAU competition will extend the season substantially and allow the boys to gain valuable experience, Schloss said. Bob Frye is assistant coach. The boys team is currently manned by the following players: Brendan Frye, Mike Perrone, Tom Holmgren, Jordan Webster, Ben Nichols, Jason Power, Mike Curtis, Nick Monroe, Dante Siletti and Ryan Belden. The team is sponsored by Geprge Henrys tavern and the Warrensburg Fire Co.
