The Addison County Chamber of Commerce holds a monthly after hours business mixer around the county for members and guests to gather, network and have an enjoyable evening. At these mixers each month a member name is drawn from a Pot of Gold and if the member is present to claim the prize, that persons business wins whatever is in the pot. The value of the pot grows each month that the winner is not present.
At a recent mixer, hosted by Moonlit Alpacas in Cornwall, learning specialist Sarah Niebuhr was present to represent the Addison Central Supervisory Union. It was her lucky night, as the ACSU was picked from the Pot of Gold and won $650.
ACSUs Early Education Program is based at the Mary Hogan School and offers a range of preschool services to children from the seven towns that make-up the supervisory union (Bridport, Cornwall, Middlebury, Ripton, Salisbury, Shoreham, and Weybridge). The Early Education Program provides preschool screenings, developmental evaluations, and educational services to support children with special needs ,and at-risk children, for school success. The program offers children and families the option of attendance in a preschool classroom at Mary Hogan or they can receive outreach services in their homes, community childcare facilities or at other preschools. The Early Education Program networks with community agencies to support the needs of preschool children and their families.
The money ACSU won from the Addison County Chamber of Commerce Pot of Gold will be used to expand the programs early literacy materials. This will include new editions of some classic childrens stories as well as puppets, which accompany the stories, making story reading a more interactive and language-rich experience for the children.
