Alexandria Harris, of Long Lake, has been named managing director for the Adirondack Lakes Center For The Arts. Her responsibilities include membership, fund raising, grants and managing the Arts Center office and staff.
Harris graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history in 2011 from St. Lawrence University and completed her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction a year later at SUNY Potsdam.
She has served as the Arts Center’s Office Manager for over a year, giving her the experience required to absorb the daily ins and outs.
The Arts Center Board was unanimous in the hiring decision. Members agree she is a warm and sociable addition, as well as being extremely enthusiastic about the arts and the Arts Center. Her enthusiasm stems from her understanding of what goes on behind the scenes as well. Harris danced at St. Lawrence, and she worked extensively in the St. Lawrence Theatre’s costume shop.
“The best way to understand things is from the inside,” Harris said of her experience.
When asked of her goals, Harris didn’t hesitate.
“There’s no better jumping off point for education and advocacy than the Arts,” Harris said. “My mom instilled in me that you have to care greatly about what you do for a living. Which makes this much more than just a job.”
Harris assumed her new responsibilities on April 15.
