Ten students from Springfield High School auditioned this January for the Vermont All State Music Festival and eight were selected to participate, double the number from last year.
Statewide, just half of those auditioning were accepted into the chorus, while Springfield placed five students out of seven.
They are: sopranos, Erika Anderson and Brittany Adnams; altos, Carrie Mobus and Emily Mobus; and bass, Michael Whittemore.
For instrumentalists, in a year where the festival accepted a little over half of those who auditioned, all three Springfield applicants were selected. Violinist David Castrignano and tubist Nicolas Chlebak will join the orchestra, and alto saxophonist Lindsay Turgeon will perform with the band.
The festival this year is in Rutland. It starts with jazz band rehearsals and the annual parade on Wednesday, May 5, culminating in the large ensemble concert on Saturday, May 8 at 3 p.m.
