SHELBURNE If you dont have broadband Internet in your neighbor today, you will but youll have to wait until 2010. Gov. Jim Douglas joined FairPoint Communications company officials last week to announce that the company will provide 100 percent broadband coverage to 51 communities spread among all 14 Vermont counties. Douglas said FairPoints expansion is an important contribution to his e-State Initiative a plan to make Vermont the first state with universal access to quality cellular coverage and high-speed broadband technology. FairPoint acquired 99 telephone exchanges in its March 31 acquisition of Verizons wireline business in Vermont. The Douglas administration had negotiated the broadband expansion as part of a previous commitment from Verizon. Douglas praised FairPoint for agreeing to honor this commitment when it acquired Verizons wireline business in the state. The locations of the 51 exchanges are divided among all 14 Vermont counties including Chittenden and Addison counties.
