COLCHESTER Almost, Maine is the third production in this summers season at Saint Miichaels Playhouse. The play was written by John Cariani and deviated just a little from the traditional musical or humorous plays I so enjoy at Saint Mikes. This play takes a chance with humor that left me somewhat puzzled but I ended up laughing. Each of the eight scenes are independent of each other, while existing in a common place and time, Maine at nine o'clock on a winters night. The 18 characters, played by four actors, where all in some kind of love moment during a Northern Lights display. If you travel east far enough, you will be back next to your romantic interest even closer than you were when you started. Figure that one out. I'm still a bit puzzled. The couple, Pete and Ginette, were endearing enough to carry the idea. Almost, Maine is a funny place that has some unexpected but thought provoking moments. I spent a pleasant evening laced with laughter and bewilderment all at the same time. For tickets call 802-654-2281. While youre at it, get your tickets for Pump Boys and Dinettes, a Broadway musical that will find you tapping to Farmer Tans. See you there. By the way, Saint Michael's Playhouse has been chosen as New York City Drama Leagues newest member. The honor was presented to Chuck Tobin, the seasoned producing artistic director.
