LAKE GEORGE - The management of Americade announced this week that they will not be holding their planned 2009 Fall Foliage Festival, a spinoff of their ever-popular June motorcycle rally.
Americade representative Christian Dutcher said in a press release that considering the state of the economy in mind, Americade management has concluded that the fall event, envisioned for Sept 18 through 20, would probably not reach their attendance targets which were specified in their Occupancy Tax grant application.
In January, the Warren County Occupancy Tax Committee earmarked a $10,000 grant for Americade to hold the event, but Americade officials have now advised county leaders they won't be taking it this year because of the projected shortfall in potential attendees, Dutcher said.
"An analysis of previous attendees has indicated that launching this event in a different economic climate would be best," he said.
However, the fortunes of Americade 2009 look promising, Dutcher said. Dutcher said that pre-registration for the annual June rally started about a week ago and the initial attendance numbers are robust.
"We are as buried with the initial rush of sign-ups as ever, and we hope it will continue," he said.
