POTTERSVILLE The Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival fundraising dinner with entertainment by Seagle Music Colonys opera singer Meaghan Dieter will be held at 6 p.m. Sat. Aug. 23 at SonRise on Schroon Lake, located off Rte. 9. During the evening attendees will be able to visit with many of the marathons organizers and volunteers. Thrivent Financial has pledged to match ticket sales of up to $500, according to Joel Friedman of the Marathon Committee. This is an excellent way to support the Adirondack Marathon and have a great time, he said. Tickets for the dinner may be purchased at the door or in advance at Friedman Realty and Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce. More than $100,000 was raised at last years Adirondack Marathon for cancer research and prevention of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. New in 2008 is the participation of Team Hole in the Wall supporting the mission of Hole in the Wall Camps, the worlds largest family of camps for children with life-threatening diseases. In 2008 the Adirondack Marathon awarded $3,000 to area youth for college scholarships. This years Adirondack Marathon Distance Festival registration has exceeded all years. New this year is a two-person marathon relay. The relay exchange location is near the Adirondack Lodges just below the Adirondack General Store. Highlighting the festival will be the Adirondack Marathon, a 26.2-mile road race around Schroon Lake, set for Sun. Sept. 21. The distance festival also includes 5 and 10-kilometer road races in Chestertown Sat. Sept. 20, and a half marathon in Schroon Lake on Sun., Sept. 21. Fundraising dinner performer Meaghan Deiter is currently pursuing a masters degree in vocal performance at the University of Kansas. She has performed roles in both musical theater and opera including Edith in Pirates of Penzance with Wichita Grand Opera and Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man and South Pacific.
