PLATTSBURGH - The State Employees Federated Appeal has officially kicked off across the North Country. The annual campaign targets state employees and provides them with an opportunity to pledge contributions to a wide variety of local, national and international charities.
The United Way of Clinton and Essex Counties Inc. coordinates the SEFA campaign in Hamilton, Franklin, Essex and Clinton counties. The campaign is overseen and operated by a regional SEFA committee comprised of representatives from throughout the four counties.
Last year, the SEFA committee was successful in raising $197,054.50 among state employees for participating charities and federations.
"State employees in this area are very generous and caring people and our committee does a great job raising much needed dollars for important purposes," said Wayne Rabideau, an Altona Correctional Facility employee and member of the Public Employee Federation Union, serves as committee chair and loaned executive for the campaign.
This year, the committee, which also includes representatives from charities, is hoping to raise more than $200,000.
"The SEFA campaign is a great asset to our community and beyond. I am very proud to be a part of it and to work with a great group of people," said local United Way executive director John C. Bernardi.
