GLENS FALLS - Forty cultural organizations, municipalities, artists and community groups, including 12 based in northern Warren County, were awarded a total of $72,148 in grants recently by the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.
The awards were announced this week by LARAC spokeswoman Anne Smoczynski.
Funding for these grants is provided by the New York State Council on the Arts, Warren County government, and the Rivendell Foundation. Warren County provides $5,000 for the local arts programming within its borders.
These grants have been distributed in Warren County since 1979 and Washington County since the mid-80s with more than $960,000 awarded to assist the region's arts and cultural programs.
The 2009 grant recipients in northern Warren County are as follows:
•Lake George Chamber Orchestra, $2,750 towards Chamber Concert Series;
•Town of Stony Creek, $2,000 for summer concert series;
•Our Town Theatre Group, Johnsburg, $1,600 towards Waiting for Godot;
•Historical Society of the Town of Bolton Landing, $1,400 towards presentation of new work and $300 Shakes on the Lake presentations by the Lake George Theater Lab;
•Marcella Sembrich Memorial Association, Inc., $1,200 towards The Written Word presentation;
•North Warren Chamber of Commerce, $1,050 towards summer concert series;
•Lake George Community Band, $1,000 towards concert series;
•Town of Johnsburg Library, $1,000 towards Fiber Arts Series;
•North Country Arts Center, $800 for student mentoring art program;
•Town of Chester, $795 to present The Seagle Colony's Children's Opera Carmenella;
•Hillview Free Library, Diamond Point, $745 towards a recorder concert by Courtly Music, based in Warrensburg;
•Union Chapel Association of Sabbath Day Point on Lake George, Hague, $2,508 for Chamber Concert Series.
