The Little City of Vergennes is preparing for its popular, annual summer events-Frecnh heritage Days. The event is sponsored in part by the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The event is organized by the Vergennes Area Chamber of Commerce, a division of the Addison County Chamber of Commerce. All public restrooms are located in back of the downtown park and in the Vergennes Opera House.
Friday, July 17, 6-9 p.m.
•"Veill e" in Vergennes Opera House (VOH) Friday with traditional French Canadian supper, serving 6-7 p.m., and featuring Pete and Karen Sutherland with Jeremiah McLane and a Quebec step-dancer/caller/instructor who promise a lively evening of dance with instruction and song.
Full cash bar available with French wine and beer.

Saturday, July 18, 7:00 a.m.-9:30 p.m.
•7:00-10:30 French Toast breakfast at Vergennes Fire Station
•10:00-10:30 Opening Ceremonies at the bandstand with U.S. flag raising, city band, speeches.
•10:00-6:00 Lake Champlain Maritime Museum's Lois McClure Schooner- public boarding at the docks on Otter Creek. The Lois McClure will be in Vergennes July16-19 and open for public boarding 10:00-6:00
•10:00- 4:00 City Park:
Traditional craft demonstrations, Vermont French Canadian Genealogical Society, re-enactors-French Soldiers, Comte de Vergennes, Samuel de Champlain. Children's educational activities, coloring table, hat making, games, marching drill, bubbles, stories. French language groups: Alliance Francaise of the Lake Champlain Region, Les Boulangers and Brandon French Group. Exhibits including the Addison County Sugarmakers. Several of the exhibits will be "hands on".
Fencing demonstrations on the green by members of the Vermont Fencing Alliance (in afternoon).
Les Troupes de La Pointe a la Chevelure (Crown Point Troops) 1755 French Reenactors.

Buttons on sale for admission to Vergennes Opera House (VOH) performances from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Vergennes Area Chamber of Commerce (VACC) booth until 2:00-$15. At VOH door tickets will be $20 (citywide button discounts listed below).

•Noon-12:30 French response songs with Prof. Barenbaum, Les Boulangers and Alliance Francaise-Venez chanter avec nous.
•12:30-1:30 Bixby Library - 333 Vergennes residents ideas about how to improve their city in the Art of Action work, presented by the artist, Annemie Curlin.
•12:30 Strolling Fiddler and Accordionist, Quebecois style.Lausanne LaBombarde and Rick Ceballos.
•12:45-1:00 Les Troupes de La Pointe a la Chevelure (1755 Crown Point Troops) drill.
•1:00-4:00 St. Peter Catholic Church and Religious Store open-attendant will answer questions about church built by French Canadians with doors built by Joseph Falardos' mill by Otter Creek Falls.
•1:00-1:45 Roger Perrault and Friend-fiddle and guitar at the bandstand.
•1:00-1:30 New England Ballet Conservatory mostly children performing a French regional dance, French baroque dance and an Indian style dance w/possibility of dances illustrating different aspects of Samuel de Champlain's life at VOH.
•1:00-2:30 Otter Creek boat tour on Carillon Cruises- www.carilloncruises.com or 897-5331. $14 & $10.
•1:30 Walking Tour with Bill Thiess, narrated in French and English. Meet at white tent on Park Street. Free.
•1:30-2:30 One for all and all for one! Fencing demonstration by Vermont Fencing Alliance in back of park.
•2:00-3:00 Story Teller Marylyn Peringer is Canadian legend who is best known for her bilingual presentations of French-Canadian folktales and legends full of fanciful creatures, adventure and danger (see news story in Eagle this week) For all ages. Free. Opera House.

•2:30 Bastille Day Waiter's Races, professional waiters, amateur adult waiters, and children waiters. Sponsored by the Black Sheep Bistro (street in front of information booth).
