Help decide how tourism money is spent
A meeting of Thurman Town Board members to discuss county Occupancy Tax distribution will be held at the town hall at 10 a.m. Friday, April 17. Annually, the town has thousands of dollars from county occupancy tax receipts to spend on tourism-related events, and local leaders decide how it is spent in Thurman to boost tourism here. Local organizations set meetings
The Thurman Emergency Squad is looking for new members who wish to help out by volunteering a portion of their time to benefit the community. The next meeting of the squad is at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 12 at the squad building on High St. in Athol. The meetings are open to the public. For information, call 623-9810.
The Thurman quilting group meets Friday April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the town hall.
The women's bible study group will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday April 14. Contact Charlotte 623-3843 or Joan 623-2007 for the location.
There will not be any meetings of the Thurman Connections Snowmobile club until next September.
Over the fence
Happy Easter everyone! Spring arrived with some 40-degree days before temperatures dropped down again to frigid 20-degree highs. As of April 1 we still had snow on many lawns, and some ice on local ponds.
Starting May 1 there will be changes to the town trash and recyclables pickup schedule. Garbage pickup will occur Wednesdays and Thursdays. Recyclables will be collected on Fridays.
Fishing licenses are available at the Thurman Town Clerk's office at the town hall. For information, call 623-4588.
Olan Mills Photography will be set up Monday April 20 at the Thurman Baptist Church to take not only photographs for the church directory, but portraits of any area families who wish to stop by. The church is located on South Johnsburg Rd. Photos are to be taken between 3 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. For information, call 623-2226.

Llama manure is now available from an area farm to homeowners seeking to fertilize their gardens. Those interested are asked to call 623-3987 to arrange pickup on either a Saturday or Sunday. Containers are not provided.
Easter church services slated
In Thurman, at least three churches always have open doors to welcome the community to their Easter Services. This Sunday, special Easter events are to be held as follows: the Kenyontown Methodist Church on Valley Rd. welcomes everyone to an Easter breakfast at 10 a.m. followed by special services at 11 a.m.
The Christ Community Church on Athol Rd. will have a 7 a.m. sunrise service followed by a pancake breakfast. Their special Easter services start at 11 a.m.
The Thurman Baptist Church on South Johnsburg Rd. will have a sunrise service at 7 a.m., followed by a pancake breakfast, then Sunday school at 9:45 and Easter services at 11 a.m.
Josephine Williams, a resident of Thurman for many years, passed away March 26 at an assisted living home in Cohoes. She and her husband Gordon lived on River Rd.

Seniors Club schedule changes
The Sugar Loaf Mountain Seniors Club is now resuming its evening hours. The club will meet at the Thurman Town Hall Wednesday April 15 at 6 p.m. for a covered dish meal.
An Easter ham will be served, and all who attend should bring a dish to pass.
Upcoming trips scheduled this year by the club will be discussed. At the recent club luncheon at the Olde Log Inn of Lake George, 23 club members enjoyed a meal and accompanying socializing. Anyone wishing to join the group can just attend any meeting or call Norma at 623-9425.
Youth Commission now hiring
The Thurman Youth Commission will be accepting applications from youths 14 to 16 years old to work at the town's summer recreation program. Two counselors and one counselor-in-training will also be needed. Applications for the positions are available at the town hall.
