James Maroney, author of “The Political Economy of Milk” will address the “get big or get out” theory of dairy farming and the governmental issues that discourage the family farmer in today’s economy at the quarterly Bob-White Systems’ Cheese Night on the South Royalton town green, Friday, Aug. 12, at 5:30 p.m.
Maroney and his wife live on the 800-acre Oliver Hill Organic Farm in Leicester. The farm was the largest organic dairy in Vermont up until 1989.
While he stopped farming in 1995, Maroney remains a strong voice for the aspiring Vermont dairy farmer. He is currently self-employed as an art dealer and author.
Vermont cheese samples from Blue Ledge Farm in Salisbury will also be featured. Dairy experts will be on-hand to discuss home- and micro-dairy cheesemaking and related equipment.
