PLATTSBURGH An investigation into an alleged attack on State Route 9 is currently being conducted by officers of the New York State Police, Plattsburgh Police Department and Clinton County Sheriff's Department. According to a press release from city police Capt. Michael Branch, authorities responded to an area on the east side of Route 9 just north of the Scomotion Creek bridge shortly after 1 p.m. to investigate the report of a stabbing. Police interviewed 25-year-old Michael Sorrell of Plattsburgh who told police that he was traveling south along the bike path when an unknown person attacked from behind and stabbed him. Sorrell walked from the scene of the attack to nearby McSweeneys Red Hots Restaurant where help was called. He was transported by ambulance to CVPH Medical Center for treatment, though his injuries are not life threatening, the release stated. Sorrell is expected to be released soon. A search was conducted on the stretch of Route 9 across from the Plattsburgh-North Country Chamber of Commerce offices to the intersection of Cumberland Head Road. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the attack is requested to call the Plattsburgh Police Department at 563-3411.
