A DEC Forest Ranger carrying the two year old boy shortly after he had been located by local residences.
A reported missing child has been located near Cross and Elm Streets in Ausable Acres of the town of Jay. More details will be provided as I receive them.
According to Department of Environmental Conservation spokesman David Winchell, the child, whose name has not been released, was located by a couple with a seasonal home in Ausable Acres. Upon learning about the missing child they began searching an area around their home. The child was found approximately a half mile from his last known point seen on a logging road. The child was dressed in long pants, a long sleeve shirt and socks but no shoes. He appears to be healthy.
DEC Forest Rangers, New York State Police, Essex County Sheriff's and members of three local Volunteer Fire Departments - Ausable Forks, Jay and Wilmington.
Winchell said that they were very grateful for the many people of the local community who assisted and supported the search.
At 2:20 pm DEC Dispatch received a report of a lost 2 year old boy who had wandered off from a home in the Ausable Acres in the Town of Jay. Three DEC Forest Rangers in the area immediately responded have begun searching the woods near the point he was last seen. NY State Police and additional Forest Rangers are in route to location to join the search efforts.
