Middlebury College Musical Players spice it up with their newest production, "Bare: A Pop Opera" at Middlebury's Town Hall Theater, April 16-18.
Often compared to the hit musical "Rent" in its edgy, thought-provoking style and its high-velocity rock score, "Bare" follows the lives of a group of teenagers as they navigate the maze of sexuality at a boarding school.
Throughout the show, the two protagonists Peter and Jason must learn to come to terms with their relationship and what it means to their faith, or succumb to the pressure of societal norms.
The Los Angeles debut, in 2000, caught the attention of Variety magazine, which raved about Bare's musical score-an amalgamation of contemporary pop, alternative rock, new age, rap and flat-out rhythm 'n' blues and its melodic romantic duets. The musical opened in New York in 2004, and has since created buzz all over the country.
