Its great what a difference the little things can make. Having grown up in a fairly small town where being a regular customer at a local coffee shop means chatting with the guy behind the counter every morning, I was nonetheless thrilled at the display of generosity my family was given at the Adirondack Regional Airport over the busy holiday weekend. As they sat waiting for my sisters Big Sky flight to depart for Boston on Sunday morning, my family was notified that the plane had a problem and they would need to call in a mechanic from Burlington. Everyone in the waiting area grumbled a bit and headed for Paulas Caf_t the airport. My family called me to head over from Lake Placid and have brunch with them while they waited for the plane to be repaired and to make a long story short, it didnt end up departing until later that evening. However, despite several irate customers spilling conspiracy theories about why their flight was delayed, the airport staff and especially the Big Sky employee we dealt with gave us some fantastic service that Im sure you would never get at a big international airport. We discussed my sisters options with this very gentlemanly Big Sky employee who advised us that our alternatives were to try and wait for this one or just drive to Boston. He suggested that we head down to Lake Placid for some shopping and to relax for a bit, and hed personally call us when the plane was ready to take off. He did in fact call, and as my family left for the airport to get my sister on her flight, they remarked that his display of generosity basically saved the day and all of our moods. Delays happen anywhere. But when someone trying to help goes that extra step, it just serves to make you confident that when we talk so proudly about our great region, we mean it.
