It's spring cleaning time-time to scour the attic, basement, and garage in search of lost family treasures that might produce lots of folding green. If you think you have items of value, then get them ready for Vergennes's upcoming Bixby Memorial Library Antiques Roadshow hosted by local antique experts Greg Hamilton and Lori Scotnicki.
The Bixby event will be held 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, at the library in Vergennes; it will include verbal appraisals of heirlooms and antiques. The evening will start with a brief discussion of appraisals and the various elements involved in reaching an evaluation.
Hamilton, of Stone Block Antiques in Vergennes, and Scotnicki, of Lori Scotnicki Appraisals in Shelburne, will examine antique silver, art, furniture, pottery, sporting goods, photography, books and paper, rugs, coins, jewelry, and more. If your items are too big to transport, photographs may be used.
Hamilton has been actively buying and selling antiques in Vermont since 1984. He specializes in silver, fine furniture, antique fishing gear and art; he has been the proprietor of Stone Block Antiques on Main Street in Vergennes since 1998.
Scotnicki has been involved with the evaluation, promotion and cataloging of antiques for 19 years, first as auction coordinator and sales room manager for an active local auction company and then as cataloger and appraiser for several years with Skinner Auctions in Boston and now with her own appraisal business.
There will be a $5 charge per appraised item and each individual is limited to three items. Participants must be able to provide their own assistance to move larger items. There is ramp access to the area in which the appraisals will be done.
