Sandy Roundy, of Ludlow, recently traveled to Copper Mountain, Colorado, to compete in the United States of America Snowboard Association National Championships. A halfpipe specialist, Roundy took home the gold in the Women's Jams division.
Although competing against the top performers from all across the country, Roundy spun her way to greatness, leaving her opposition in the dust and winning by a hefty margin.
Her perfectly executed runs catapulted her to the top spot on the winner's podium as the week of competitions wrapped up. Roundy is a graduate of Black River High School and currently attends the University of Vermont.
She is a member of the UVM snowboard team and competes in the USASA Northern Vermont Series. In this series, Roundy recorded three first place finishes, as well as a second, in order to qualify for nationals, and ended up ranked first overall in her division.
This is the first gold medal won by a member of the UVM snowboard team.
