Land Conservancy has jobs
Two positions for Stewardship Assistant are now open at the Lake George Land Conservancy, and the environmental group is accepting applications for the seasonal posts.
The two summer positions run from the end of May for 12 weeks. Applications are due by March 18.
The positions include maintenance of woodland preserves, erosion control work, removal of invasive plants, plus trail clearing and marking.
Duties also include leading public hikes and outings, documenting field work, conducting volunteer field days, as well as the routine maintenance of tools and vehicles.
Requirements include a commitment to environmental conservation, and either completion or enrollment in an undergraduate college degree in a natural sciences field. Knowledge of regional flora and fauna and field experience in land stewardship or outdoor recreation are preferred.
GPS skills and experience reading and understanding survey maps are also expected. Willingness to travel throughout the Lake George watershed and a valid driver's license are required. Experience with common software applications - Word, Excel, Web browsers - is also a prerequisite. Experience with GIS and design software preferred, and effective communication is expected.
Compensation is $10 per hour, and the positions are 37.5 hours per week. Some weekend work is required.

Family winter jaunt slated
Folks of all ages are invited to the Winter Warm Up event set for Saturday, March 12 at the Lake George Recreation Center. Hosted by the Lake George Land Conservancy, the family event includes a guided snowshoe hike through the Berry Pond watershed, hot chocolate and coffee while enjoying a bonfire, plus tasty treats.
