The autumn rite of color has already begun as the deciduous trees begin to turn the countryside into a panorama of beauty. The green chlorophyll has begun to disappear from the leaves. As the bright green fades away, we begin to see the yellow and orange colors. Then surrounding mountain sides will turn various colors as our forests prepare for the coming winter.
Community Fun Day Oct 13
The entire community is invited to a day of fun and festivities at Camp Waldon on Saturday, Oct. 13. A full day of activities will include choices of rock climbing, mountain biking, tennis, volleyball, soccer, hiking and walking. Also bring your own roller blades or skateboard as facilities are available. Camp Waldon will open their entire camp for Boltonians that day. Everything is free of charge.
Milo Barlow and friends will be providing live music for square dancing or just listening pleasure from 1 to 5. An Apple Dessert baking contest will be held. All entries must be delivered to the display area by 4:00 p.m. The Bolton Clergy will be the judges. There will be prizes for two groups, elementary grade bakers and then everyone older.
Camp Waldon, a hundred acre facility, is located on Trout Lake Road on the West side of Trout Lake. The Fun Day is sponsored by Bolton United Bolton Cares. The Bolton United/Bolton Cares group was formed in January 2004. Its mission is an organization of youth, parents, school personnel, the faith community, local businesses, law enforcement and community members working together to nurture social change to ensure a safe and health place for our children and families to live, learn and grow.
Book Club Meets
The next meeting will by on October 15, the book of the month is The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. It is a rich and deeply moving page-turner. The Memory Keeper's Daughter captures the way life takes unexpected turns and how the mysterious ties that hold a family together help us survive the heartache that occurs when long-buried secrets burst into the open. It is an astonishing tale of redemptive love.
Religious Education Kick Off
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Goodman Avenue will hold a Parents Meeting to kick off its Religious Education/Faith Formation program for Grades 1 through 12 for the upcoming academic year. Parents andkids will meeton Sunday, Sept. 30, at 11:45 a.m. in the church's Community Room.
Up Yonda Farm Fall Activity
Up Yonda is open on weekends through the fall. Imagine the beautiful panoramic view of Lake George as the leaves change colors. Visitors can take a leisurely stroll with a naturalist to learn the mysteries and theories behind the changing colors and why certain trees turn certain colors. For non-members, there is a $3 charge. Up Yonda is located a mile north of Bolton center on Route 9N.
