CHESTERTOWN - Matt Arehart's singles match against Dillon Engleman (10-6) secured the Varsity Tennis win Monday for Warrensburg High School as the Burgers edged out North Warren High in the Cougars' home opener, winning 4-3.
Warrensburg's Tyer Wilcox played the number-one singles match and beat Cougar John-Hayden Shafer, 10-1. Playing in the number two seed position, Dan Cobb Burgher beat Fred Culver 10-2.
North Warren's John Gordon won at the number four position, beating Jami Ladd, 10-7. Joe Strauss of North Warren had to fight off Ed DiPeitro in the number five position. Strauss was up 9-3 when DiPeitro started a comeback. Strauss won, 10-8.
North Warren's doubles team of Chase Cortez and Max May won at the number-one doubles position, beating Jaci O'Brien and Chris Robinson, 10-3. North Warren forfeited the number two singles to Savannah Monroe and Ethan Schmidt.
The Cougars' record is 0-3 after their match with Warrensburg. Both teams' courts have been snow-filled, with North Warren just able to use their courts this week.
