Thomas LaPierre, owner of Up North BBQ and Catering, Chazy, stands by a smoker at his State Route 9 business, which opened earlier this year.
Thomas LaPierre couldn’t be happier.
LaPierre opened his new business, “Up North BBQ and Catering” June 1, building on his experience in a smaller barbecue catering operation for the past nine years. That business had grown, leaving LaPierre needing a bigger kitchen.
“So, I decided to go all in and start a small barbecue restaurant,” said LaPierre.
“Business has been good,” added LaPierre. “We see a lot of repeat customers, and a lot of new faces, too.
The business began by offering take-out meals with a menu of traditional southern barbecue from pulled pork, beef brisket, chicken, ribs, smoked turkey, and other meats, which it continues to offer today.
“We also have hot and cold side dishes, from traditional cold summer salads, barbecue beans, smokey mac and cheese, French fries and tater tots,” said LaPierre, who added his business is “always looking to expand our menu to meet our customers’ cravings.”
Up North BBQ and Catering currently only offers take-out in addition to its catering services, but LaPierre has plans to open a dining room in October. The business also employs LaPierre and one full-time employee — Amanda Barlow — and two part-time employees — Nick Averill and Andrew Duprey — who work as needed.
Up North BBQ and Catering, located at 9592 State Route 9, is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 12 to 6 p.m. The business may be reached at 846-3663 and can be found on Facebook where specials are posted daily.
