VERGENNES-Vergennes businessman Brett Ward is no stranger to community recognition. That's because the successful owner of City Limits Night Club, located at 14 Green St., has been a strong and visible supporter of local youth programs.
Ward, like other prominent Little City business owners, believes in giving back to his community.
Now the Vergennes Union High School Commodore Booster Club has recognized Ward's outstanding contributions to various VUHS booster activities.
Recently, the VUHS boosters presented Ward with a special plaque in recognition for a decade of support of the Commodore Boosters.
Last year, Ward, on behalf of City Limits, contributed $13,000 to the booster club. Since 2001, he has contributed a grand total of $188,000.
In 2010, the booster club purchased middle school uniforms, a cheerleading mat, a softball scoreboard, an outdoor batting cage, rowing vests, new lighting for the high school gym, new concessions equipment, coaches' jackets, and annual scholarships and awards, according to booster club President Greg Curler.
Upon receiving the VUHS honor, Brett said, "I thank all of the customers of City Limits who have helped us achieve these goals; we couldn't have done it without you."
"With athletic budgets being reduced the booster club is playing a bigger role helping to fund some of the essentials like uniforms and equipment, as well as athletic field and facility improvements. We couldn't do it without Brett's support. We're been fortunate to have his backing all these years," Curler said.
