CHITTENDEN COUNTY The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission (CCRPC) has completed installation of 32 outdoor educational panels and 16 roadside route markers to aid in the implementation of the Lake Champlain Byway. The panels, constructed of weather-proof laminate materials, educate residents and visitors about the areas local history, culture, recreation and environment. The roadside markers, installed along Route 7 and a portion of Route 2, help mark the route of the byway. The project was funded through a grant from the Federal Highway Administrations National Scenic Byways Program and administered by the Vermont Agency of Transportation. The CCRPC worked with local municipal staff and citizen volunteers to identify locations in each of the Countys eight Byway communities: Milton, Colchester, Essex Junction, Winooski, Burlington, South Burlington, Shelburne and Charlotte. They then drafted text and located photos and other materials to create each panel. Panels were installed in the southy county area in the following locations: Burlington: Battery Park, Church Street, City Hall Park, Barnes Elementary; South Burlington: East Woods, Overlook Park, Red Rocks Park, Red Rocks Beach; Shelburne: Shelburne Bay Park, Shelburne Bay Boat Launch, Pierson Green; Charlotte: Quinlan Schoolhouse, Baptists Corner, Mt. Philo, Charlotte Senior Center.
