VERGENNES - The 1960s British Invasion hit-makers Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde, who brought us such classics as "A Summer Song" and "Yesterday's Gone" will be bringing their unique blend of folk-rock music to the Vergennes Opera House at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11.
From 1964 to 1968, Chad & Jeremy had 11 U.S. hit singles and released seven classic albums. Since then, their music has been re-released on countless albums and CDs worldwide. Their current stage act is a two-man acoustic show mixing their hits, humor and storytelling with new original songs. Tickets for this sure to be sold-out show are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde met at drama school in 1960 and were playing a small folk club in London when they were discovered by famed movie composer John Barry. They became a sensation in America riding the wave of the British Invasion, chalking up numerous Top 40 hits including "Summer Song,""Yesterday's Gone," "Willow Weep for Me," and "Distant Shores." Of all the British Invasion acts of the time, Chad & Jeremy were unique. Not only were they long-haired purveyors of English-accented pop hits, they were clever songwriters who had a softer side and a sensibility closer to many of their U.S. folk-pop contemporaries.
The group disbanded in the late 1960s, as Jeremy returned to acting, but they reunited in the 1980s to release an album, star in a London West End musical, and tour the United States. The most recent phase in their career began in 2003 when they reunited for a PBS TV music special. Since then they have performed their two-man show all over the United States, Canada, Hawaii and the Philippines - playing to sold out crowds who flock to hear the harmonies and the humor.
In 2008, they released a newly recorded tribute to their legendary classic albums, featuring the ultimate re-recordings of their favorite songs from their classic catalogue, entitled ARK-eology. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and show time is 8 p.m. Seating is general admission and tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door.
