SCHROON LAKE The Schroon Lake Chamber of Commerce is looking for help with its 22nd annual Olde Thyme Christmas Celebration and Holiday Raffle. It will be held Saturday, Dec. 8. The chamber of commerce would like to continue building on last years revamping of the Christmas celebration, said Patti Mehm of the celebration committee. Can you think of other events or activities that would add to the fun and importance of the evening? Can you help host an event or help provide supplies for an activity? Do you want to put on a performance, can you face paint, have cool stories to tell, etc.? The possibilities are endless. We are looking to the community for assistance, she added. We need greeters, help selling raffle tickets and others to assist at some of the venues. It is the residents, church and school communities and service organizations in town that make Schroon Lake such a special place to live. We are asking for your help to make this celebration come alive and shine with holiday spirit and activity. How can we all work together to make the Schroon Lake Christmas Celebration sparkle? The celebration will again feature a Holiday Raffle. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to help make Christmas a little brighter for local families who need assistance this holiday season. Last year, the Holiday Raffle was new and proved to be extremely popular, with almost 50 items donated by local residents, churches, organizations and businesses, Mehm said. This year we will have a larger location at the chamber of commerce building. Raffle tickets will be available beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday and will continue through out the event. The drawing will be held at 8 p.m. People do not have to be present to win. Tickets will be sold six for $2, 15 tickets for $5 and 35 tickets for $10. If any large item donations are received, there will be separate raffles held. Last year a donation of $1,200 was given to community programs, split between the Lions Club Food Baskets, Schroon Lake Food Pantry and Christmas Express gifts for area youth. For a small community we really came together, Mehm said. We dug down deep, had some fun and were able to make a significant donation to our local charitable organizations. Mehm said people can help with the basket raffle by donating items, even complete baskets, or by selling tickets. Themed gift baskets work really great and are very popular, she said. They can be put together rather inexpensively, especially if groups work together to collect items. But it doesnt have to be a basket, it can be any type of new item. Each donation will have a recognition card posted and be listed in the evening festivities program. Donations must be made by Dec. 3. Donations can be left at the chamber office (532-7675) Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at The Towne Store (532-9954) every day except Tuesday and Wednesday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. People can also cal Mehm at 791-3578 or Email her at email@example.com to arrange pick up of donations.
