ALTONA - It was all about having fun and helping kids.
The Sorrell Quarter Horse Farm on Alder Bend Road played host to a fundraising event Sept. 25 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. Donations to St. Jude allowed children to ride horses and get treated to cupcakes by the Sorrell family.
"We were contacted by St. Jude to see if we'd be interested in organizing a fundraiser," said Gary Sorrell Jr. "We thought it was a great idea because we have all these horses and kids love horses."
Sorrell said partnering with Horses in Motion, a business in Chazy which offers horseback riding lessons, was a good way to raise money for St. Jude, which helps children with life-threatening diseases.
"It's good to be able to give back. Especially to St. Jude, where it's all about the kids," said Sorrell. "Because you just never know. It could be any one of these kids that's sick tomorrow."
"We wanted to do a fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Hospital, and what better way than this," said Horses in Motion owner Alexandria Barie. "Cupcakes and horses - you can't go wrong with that."
The Sept. 25 event was the third fundraising event Sorrell Quarter Horse Farm has hosted for charities, said Sorrell. Others have included March of Dimes and the United Way.
"So, now we've added St. Jude to the list," said Sorrell. "We're glad we could do it."
