PLATTSBURGH The United Methodist Church of Plattsburgh, 127 Beekman Street, will offer a free concert Friday, June 6 at 7:00 PM in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the installation of its Russell pipe organ. Jonathan Ortloff, a senior at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, will present organ works by Dupr_Mendelssohn, Buxtehude, Bach, and Widor, as well as a transcription of Igor Stravinskys Firebird and an improvisation. The audience will be involved in a number of parts of the performance, and will be able to watch Ortloffs hands and feet on two large projection screens at the front of the church. The Russell organ has garnered esteem and fame since its installation ten years ago as one of the finest instruments in northern New York, and has attracted performers from around the world including organists from St. Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City and Washington National Cathedral. Stephen Russell, the builder of the organ from Cambridgeport, Vermont, will attend the performance, which will be followed by a reception.
