PLATTSBURGH - The city's water supply has tested negative for bacteria.
City Environmental Manager Jonathan Ruff issued a statement Aug. 24 that noted precautionary drinking water samples collected from the city distribution system Aug. 23 tested negative for bacteria.
On Monday, some water users in the city noticed a yellowish color to their water. Water plant staff investigated the situation and found the raw reservoir water had more color than usual, probably due to the time of year and recent rain events.
Color by itself has no sanitary significance but could affect water taste and odor, noted Ruff. Testing indicates adequate chlorine residual exists helping to provide disinfection. As a precautionary measure, distribution system samples were analyzed for bacteria.
