Schroon Lake has a new community center.
The facility has opened in Joanies Goodies, a restaurant located at 1061 Route 9.
“We have a portion of our building we haven’t been using,” explained Joanie Cunningham, owner of Joanies Goodies. “The community needs a community center, a place were kids can go and adults can meet.”
The inaugural event at the new community center will be a free Halloween party Saturday, Oct. 26, 4 to 9 p.m. It will feature a haunted house, games, pumpkin decorating, bobbing for apples and more.
Cunningham said the community center will be open daily for adults and after school until 9 p.m. for children.
“Basically, we’re open all the time,” Cunningham said.
Thanks to donations from Curtis Lumber and Rebecca and Jeroud Doyle of Schroon Lake Pharmacy, the center has games available for children. A fooseball table has been ordered, but not yet been delivered.
People wishing to reserve the community center for use can call Cunningham at 532-9900. Use of the space is free.
Gateway, a group for young fathers, meets at the community center Tuesdays at 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. A group of people interested in improving the area also meets in the space Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 9 a.m.
